Fiore, who was raised in Dobbs Ferry where he attended local schools before going on to Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, opened his newest Planet Wings in busy Ardsley Square in the space formerly occupied by Sunnydale Farms Foods.
"I know the [Rivertowns] communities so well from growing up here," Fiore said. "It was a great opportunity to come back and open a franchise here in Ardsley. I used to come here to the village all the time and now I'm back home."
Fiore, whose two other Planet Wings franchises are in New Rochelle and the Bronx, was hard at work Monday putting his crew through their paces to begin the first full week of business at the 721 Saw Mill River location. Fiore also owns a Pronto Pizza & Pasta store in New Rochelle.
Planet Wings offers chicken wings in 24 flavors like classic BBQ, teriyaki, Jamaican jerk and Montero ranch spiked with degrees of heat from "mild" to "hot" to "suicidal." The menu also includes cheese steaks, fresh salads, Mexican food entrees, heroes, sandwiches, burgers and kids meals.
Ardsley Middle School students Hannah Glehan and Gianna Cotignola sat in a booth and munched on a late-afternoon Planet Wings snack Monday.
"My brother Antonio and his two friends were the first customers (Saturday)," Gianna said. "I like the food a lot. And we can walk here from our homes."
Hannah said having a new place in the village gives her another food choice. "It's close by and we don't have too many [fast food] places here," she said. "I think kids will like it here."
Fiore said his new venture will have an official grand opening sometime in early September but he invited villagers and neighbors to come by and visit.
"We're planning the official grand opening sometime in the next week or so," Fiore said. "I know people will enjoy the food and we hope to give the village our best."
