The Edgemont resident admits opening in Bronxville was part of her original plan. However, when nothing was available that fit her specifications, she opened Candy Rox in Rye, a fusion between music and candy.
That was in November 2010 and life has been "sweet" ever since.
"Everyone has fond memories of candy. We hear stories all day from people of all ages," she said.
And so she filled her Rye store -- and now her Bronxville one, open since April -- into a colorful smörgåsbord of candy, clothing and gifts. Popular now in Bronxville: graduation gifts like a soft, autographable pillow saying "Bronxville, Class of 2015" as well as pillows with college names on them. In Rye, the hot thing is camp packages.
Her stores are also big on party favors and private in-store parties.
As for what's trending candy-wise, Stone said anything sour tends to be big among teens and tweens while the older set likes licorice and chocolates. Her Bronxville location also offers Melt ice cream sandwiches which are proving to be very popular.
Stone attributes the key to her success and the opening of her second location to keeping items fresh and on trend. "We're constantly updating our inventory and trying new things," she said. "It's candy. It makes people happy."
Candy Rox is located at 66 Pondfield Rd., Bronxville, (914) 779-6750 and at 84 Purchase St., Rye, (914) 844-6750, www.candyrox.net/.
