The 206,000-square foot fitness, recreation and spa athletic resort is the company’s second location in New York and the 109th in the U.S. The complex employs more than 250 people, and will officially open for business Saturday morning.
“For us, this is like the Super Bowl. All the preparation, all the planning, all the execution that we do, that all goes into an amazing facility,” said Jeff Zwiefel, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Life Time.
“We want to deliver more than a gym, more than a health club, more than a place to just come and work out. It’s a healthy way of life destination here in Westchester.”
The facility features personal training, weightlifting and fitness machines, basketball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, 10 tennis courts, yoga, pilates and Zumba. Both members and non-members can use the LifeCafe restaurant and the LifeSpa, which includes massages, relaxation therapy, hair and nail care services.
“What we do is we identify the passions of our members, their goals. We really take time in that process,” said Susan Mistri, general manager of the Harrison location. She said that when members sign up, they receive physical analysis and blood analysis to determine their physical condition and develop specific workout routines for each person.
“Life Time is all about education. We educate the youth today, and we have a fantastic Kids Academy Program,” Mistri said. The Kids Academy includes enrichment programs for body and mind, such as sports skills, art classes, karate lessons and swim classes. Life Time is also working to possibly expand its Life Time Foundation to New York schools, which includes healthy school lunches and health education.
Mistri said that Life Time focuses on quality hiring, and that applicants have to undergo rigorous training to make sure that they are passionate about helping members. She said that more than 3,000 people applied, and the 250 people hired create jobs for the community. She also said that Life Time is still hiring Kids Academy team members and Operations team members.
Life Time Fitness is at 1 Westchester Park Drive and will be open from 4 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. It is located in the space formerly occupied by The Journal News.
