Spookytown Brings Halloween Spirit To Hartsdale

HARTSDALE, N.Y. — If you're a Hartsdale resident, you don't have to go far to look for a Halloween costume — Spookytown is right around the corner.

The seasonal store opened its doors last week, taking the place of the Harrow's patio furniture business at its 111 S. Central Park Ave. location. The private company, with several locations in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, offers thousands of different Halloween costumes and decorations, said manager Ally Hidalgo.

"We give customers a great experience and always try to give them one-one-one time," Hidalgo said. "If you want to be a vampire, we'll show you the costume and accessories. And then, if you want to go crazy, we'll give you fake blood and do your makeup."

Besides offering the services of professional makeup artists, Spookytown employees also get into the holiday spirit and dress into different costumes at work.

"We're a very family-oriented place, and you can find anything here you want," said Camilo Garcia, an employee.

Spookytown also has all the kids' favorites, including Star Wars and Angry Birds — big sellers last year — and "Monsters High" costumes, what Hidalgo said will most likely be their most popular item among young middle school girls this year.

The store has been operating out of the same location for the past six years, last year being the exception when it leased the 423 Central Park Ave. space, now home to The Tile Shop. Hidalgo said what makes the store stand out is its variety of decor, props, wigs and masks, which are all kept at a fair price.

"Except when you want to go big and glamorous," she added.
