WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Hastings-on-Hudson, White Plains and Mamaroneck are among the Westchester County communities holding candlelight vigils this week for the victims of the Orlando mass shootings.
Daily Voice previously reported about another vigil planned Thursday at 7 pm. at Peekskill Riverfront Green.
A total of 49 people were shot and killed at the Pulse nightclub early Sunday morning in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
There will be a vigil in Hastings-on-Hudson for the Orlando victims starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, at Fulton Park -- adjacent to the Hastings Library. (In the event of rain, the vigil will be is inclement weather, the vigil will take place in the public library's Orr Room.) Several congregations of different faiths will join together in a moment of peace and solidarity. All are invited.
A Candelight Vigil for Orlando will be held at The LOFT on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at The LOFT at 252 Bryant Ave. in White Plains. More than a dozen community and gay rights groups have signed on as sponsors. The LOFT also will be participating in a vigil on Monday June 20 at City Hall in Yonkers at 5 p.m.

The Village of Mamaroneck plans a vigil Friday at 8 p.m. Village officials and residents will gather around the memorial in front of the court room located at 169 Mt. Pleasant Ave.
There will be no political speeches, according to Mamaroneck Mayor Norman S. Rosenblum. "People should bring candles to light," Rosenblum said on Wednesday. ' This will offer the same opportunity for the community to express its feelings as we did for the Paris tragedy. This is a time once again for mourning those whose lives where taken and with prayers for the injured."
"It is a time for reflection and appreciation of what we too often take for granted -- our freedoms and quality of life -- It also reminds us that we must firmly stand together with all Americans and others throughout the world of good will in this common battle against terrorism," Rosenblum said.
