Dobbs Ferry Library Displays Chairs Built By Rivertown Youth

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- On display now at the Dobbs Ferry Public Library are four chairs designed and built by Rivertowns' young people during the recent Chair Masters Design Studio.

The camp, organized by ArchForKids, enrolled 11 children, ages 8-13.

The life-sized chairs are made out of cardboard but are strong enough to support the child's weight. They are opposite the circulation desk on the first floor and will remain on view through the end of November.

Working in small teams, participants learned to use the tools and strategies of architects and designers. On the studio’s last day, the young designers presented their work to their families.

Architect-educators from ArchForKids also will lead a free family workshop at the library Nov. 23. The public can come between 2-4 p.m. and make three-dimensional models of drawbridges.

The Dobbs Ferry Public Library, at 55 Main St., is open daily.

ArchForKids, established this year by Janny Gédéon, Karen Orloff and Kathryn Slocum, provides hands-on learning experiences grounded in architecture, engineering, urban planning and design.
