Man On Bike Struck, Seriously Injured In Union

A man who was riding a bike Wednesday morning was struck by a car in Union, police said.

The victim, 35-year-old Marat Kurbanov of Newark, was struck in the 2000 block of Rt. 22 west around 10:29 a.m., police said. He was hit by the Nissan Versa while crossing from the Volkswagen dealership to the Work N Gear in the highway's center median, police said. 

He was rushed to University Hospital with serious injuries, police also said. A spokesman later said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. 

The driver, 24-year-old Ekinadose Lebarty of Irvington, remained at the scene and was cooperative, police said. 

The accident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the police traffic bureau at 908-851-5070.
