“I think it is beautiful,” Mary DiNardo said of the honor created by city police and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office. “It just goes to show they are a brotherhood.”
No matter how overwhelmed she might have been, Mary DiNardo held it together, smiling throughout, those who attended said. Why?
Three reasons: Gwendolyn, 4; Marc Anthony II, 3; and Ella, 2.
“A beautiful, courageous woman and 3 wonderful children,” one online message board posting reads. “I hope someday the kids can appreciate how lucky they are to have been born of these two people.” Or, as another wrote: “She’d love nothing more to wake up from this nightmare and cook him dinner….”
Three officers who survived wounds from the gun battle also marched in the Jersey City Puerto Rican Heritage and Paradel: Officer Michael Camacho, 25, who was shot in the neck; Frank Molina Jr., 35, who was hit in his bulletproof vest; and Marc Lavelle, 43, who was shot in the leg.
Dennis Mitchell, 35, a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who was injured in the shoot-out, didn’t attend.
