Stephen Monsees has joined his grandfather and the bar's owner, Gene Faatz, in the family business. Monsees represents the fourth generation of his family to run the establishment. He's considered a prime candidate to take over management of the restaurant once Gene Faatz retires, according to a statement from the business.
According to The Orange Lantern's website, the restaurant opened in 1933 after Grandpa Herman sold his milk business and purchased a gas station, package store and bar. The building was later converted into the restaurant it is today.
Soon after, Grandpa Herman died, leaving control of the business to his son, who ran The Orange Lantern until retiring in the 1980s, when Gene Faatz took over.
Though Gene Faatz has no immediate plans to retire, Monsees, Grandpa Herman's great, great grandson, is being groomed to take over.
