Central Jersey Driver, 78, Charged In Deadly Clark Hit-Run

A 78-year-old Central Jersey driver was charged in a Union County hit-and-run that killed an 82-year-old man.

Thiruvenk Srinivasan, 78, of Edison, was charged with a single count of second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal accident in connection with last month's crash, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo announced Thursday.

James B. Leinbach was struck around 6 a.m. Oct. 20, near Raritan Road and Clarkton Drive, and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Police later that month released photos of the suspect vehicle: A red or maroon 1994-2004 Chevy S-10 or GMC Sonoma.

Srinivasan was identified as a suspect and arrested Thursday morning, following an investigation lead by the Clark Police Department Traffic and Detective bureaus and Lt. Christian Lott.
