Head to Tarrytown's Pierson Park's Band Shell Friday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. where Singer Bianca Muñiz will be belting it out.

The Sleepy Hollow resident, an alumnus of the Lagond Music School in Elmsford, is a two-time cancer survivor. She got ovarian cancer at age 11, was in remission for years and then was diagnosed with breast cancer at 22.

But instead of wallowing in her sorrows, she started singing and blogging about her experiences as a way to help others.

"The first time I was diagnosed I was embarrassed and wanted to pretend like it wasn't happening," she said.

"The second time around, when I was trying to find women my age going through the same thing, I couldn't find any."

And so, she decided to voice her thoughts through her music in the hopes that if other people were going through the same thing, they'd know what to expect and would feel safe to reach out.

Since then, Muñiz has had many women  -- as well as men --  with different types of cancer as well as various life hardships reach out, all of which has helped make her stronger.

"It makes me feel good knowing I'm helping inspire and motivate other people," she said.

"It's what keeps me writing."

Muñiz describes her music as "genre bending" and influenced by pop, rock, jazz, and R&B. "We like to call it Avante-Pop," she said.

Though she's still undergoing treatment -- she has that until March 2018 -- Muñiz is as busy as ever. Aside from her Tarrytown gig (she'll be performing with fellow Westchesterite Heather LaRose), she'll be releasing the music video from her upcoming album the end of September.
