Long-Odds Horses Pay Baltimore Racetrax Regular A $15,473 Prize

A Maryland Lottery enthusiast had a big payday when he cashed in on more than $15,000 in prize money, officials say.

A Maryland Lottery player won big on Racetrax, which simulates horse racing in a game that "offers the thrill of horse racing and the payout and prizes of a Keno game."

The player took home $15,473 from his lucky Trifecta Box bet on a July 12 win with Racetrax purchased at the Pikesville Mobil in the 1509 block of Reistertown Road, according to the Maryland Lottery.

A Trifecta Box pick allows better to pick three horses who they believe will place first, second, and third, in any order.

Racetrax has 12 horses per race with the number one horse having the best odds of winning, and the lowest payout. The number 12 horse has the lowest odds of winning, but the highest payout.

This lucky Lottery player chose to bet on the lowest odds of the number 10, 11, and 12 horses to get the highest payout, which proved to be a boon when the Trifecta Box hit on one of the 10 races he bet on.

He will continue playing the Lottery, he said, mainly because he enjoys it and wins enough prizes to keep his games interesting.

The winner isn't the only lucky one as the Pikesville retailer will also receive a bonus equal to 1 percent of the prize, or $154.73, for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more.
