Walmart representatives awarded the funds at a ceremony held at the White Plains Walmart store on Monday, Nov. 17. This grant will support all of Food Bank for Westchester’s emergency food distribution programs. According to the Food Bank, these programs provide 95 percent of all the food given to hungry Westchester residents in the form of cooked meals or groceries to take home. “Walmart is a great community partner that is dedicated to making strides in the fight against hunger,” said Ellen Lynch, executive director of the Food Bank for Westchester. “We are humbled and delighted by this generous gift from the Walmart Foundation. This funding is vital to further assist the Food Bank in providing healthy, nutritious food for families in Westchester County. In Westchester County, approximately 200,000 people are at risk of hunger or facing food insecurity. 33 percent of those at risk are children and 22 percent are seniors.
