To raise the funds for its Help Us Throw a Prom campaign, Operation PROM joined Crowdrise, an online fundraising website. The organization has set a goal of $11,000 to completely fund a prom for The Channel View School for Research in May.
Operation PROM had already raised $4,716 by Wednesday night.
"So many people want to help Hurricane Sandy victims in any way they can," said Operation PROM Founder Noel D'Allacco in a statement. "Operation PROM can't necessarily build them new homes, but this is what we do, and this is how we can help."
The high school's students in need will also be eligible for free formal wear, which Operation PROM provides to thousands of students throughout Westchester County every year. All of the gently-used dresses donated are stored in the County Warehouse on Executive Boulevard in Elmsford; storage space which was donated by County Executive Rob Astorino, who publicly supports the cause each year.
