GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- For seven years, two Greenburgh students -- Je’lyn and Jade Brown -- have been bringing joy to struggling area children through organizing their own toy drive, 'Bringing Joy to the Children'.

Je'lyn, a sophomore at Cornell University, and Jade, a senior at Valhalla High School were honored by the Greenburgh Town Board on Dec. 9 for their service to the community.

"We started this grassroots organization with the hope of helping others, and we quickly learned that they helped us," Jade said in her acceptance address. "We get to see their strength, resilience and learned that love conquers all. We are blessed to assist these families who have been affected by poverty, and are committed to brining awareness to homelessness and poverty."

Over the years, the sisters have provided new toys and clothing to homeless and underserved families in Westchester, including donations to the Coachman Family Center homeless shelter, My Sisters Place Domestic violence shelter, Westchester Resource for Adoption Program and the Theodore Young Community Center.

Despite the growing number of homeless and underserved families in Westchester, their donors continue to meet the challenge to ensure that each child receives a new gift. They are asking for new unwrapped toys or clothing. To arrange for a donation to be picked up contact
