"It's a nice way to commemorate the sacrifices of many," said Sheila Murphy, who husband, Terence Murphy, is the chief of the Tarrytown Fire Department.
"I just wanted to see my daddy marching in the parade," the Murphys' daughter, Maeve, said.
Many people donned their red, white and blues to wear to the parade and ceremony which followed. Even the furry pets came out to show their support.
Lois Rey drove to Tarrytown for this parade from Florida, with her little fiurry friend named, Buddy.
"I was a Sleepy Hollow resident, actually a native from North Tarrytown (as it used to be called) and I think that it is important that people understand the true meaning of Memorial Day," said Rey.
Rey's husband was in the Navy for six years and was a part of the ceremony at Patriots Park which immediately followed the short parade.
Rita Galgano, a former resident of Sleepy Hollow, who now lives in Georgia said, "This is a wonderful parade. More towns and villages should honor the vets."
The Sleepy Hollow Middle/High School Band marched in the parade but, played at the ceremony at Patriots Park.
Tarrytown Mayor Drew Fixell was present along with Sleepy Hollow Mayor Ken Wray. Both made short remarks and thanked everyone for the support.
"Remember the folks that defended our freedoms today," Wray said.
"I want to thank you all for coming out and showing your support. Don't forget the sacrifice these men and women did for us," Mayor Fixell said.
