New Bobcat Sighting Reported, This One In Westchester

When Craig Padawer saw an animal scurry outside his bedroom window in Pound Ridge early Saturday morning, he thought it was one of the foxes spotted frequently outside his mid-century modern house with floor-to-ceiling glass.

This photo was captured late in the morning on a Saturday in early February in Fishkill.

But it turned out to be something else.

It was a bobcat.

Padawer, who has lived on Old Pound Road since 2010, said he's "seen everything from wild turkeys and foxes to a black bear walk across our property.."

But he had never seen a bobcat -- until now.

Padawer estimates the bobcat was about 40 pounds.

"It stood for about a minute looking off into the woods and then marched off towards Indian Hill Road," he reports.

It's the first publicly reported bobcats sighting in the Hudson Valley since early February when Matt McGilvray of Fishkill captured a photo of the animal in his backyard, also on a Saturday morning. (See photo above.)

McGilvray, who has a field camera set up in his backyard with a motion sensor, has captured a number of wildlife shots over the years.
