The artist-run record label, based in White Plains, is launching with four albums and a 101-song compilation. The label is founded by musicians Jon Madof of Zion80 and Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz

On Nov. 1, Chant Records will release full albums by Zion80, Darshan, The Fugu Plan and Sandcatchers. The New York-based bands draw on diverse influences including Middle Eastern music, jazz, punk, Afrobeat, Hip Hop, country music and klezmer. The bands will be performing at concerts throughout New York City and the record label plans on releasing albums throughout the year.

"If you find yourself wandering through the dense wilderness of the 21st-century music business, you may hear a sound in the distance," Madof said. "It could be a cacophonous explosion of percussion, a beautiful soaring vocal melody, or both at once. But don’t fear, it’s just Chant Records and their crazy tribe of sonic explorers."
