Elmsford Writer Tells Three Tales in Coming Books

ELMSFORD, N.Y. – With the success of her first self-published book, Jasmine Johnson now has two new books in the works, with a third on the way.

The Elmsford resident's next book is "The 7th Sin," telling the story of a female pianist working at a club and stuck in a bad relationship. The seven deadly sins take the shape of people to guide or tempt the protagonist. The book should be completed in January 2012 and published in March.

"I never not have fun writing," said Johnson. "If I'm not distracted, I'll stay up late writing for however long."

Her following book is "Anastia," a sci-fi/fantasy novel. It tells the story of a girl, the daughter of two kingdom-rulers, from another planet who is sent to Earth when her planet is attacked. When she lands on Earth, her memory is erased and she resides as a normal girl. Nevertheless, people search for the otherworldly girl and she slowly starts to remember her old life. Johnson said that she hopes to have "Anastia" finished by late May 2012 and will likely publish it in July.

Johnson's first book, "Sibling Secrets," published when she was a senior at Alexander Hamilton High School, is a story about a progressing relationship between step-siblings. She was working on a sequel, but has put it on hold until she is finished writing "Anastia."

"A lot of people ask me if it's hard to keep two stories in your head without mixing them up," Johnson said. "But for me, it's not hard to keep the stories apart. It's hard finding time to write a decent amount of each story. I have no problem keeping the storylines apart. I never find myself mixing a character's name into another book."

Johnson currently studies at Westchester Community College, working on her Associate's degree in visual arts. She also works at the Joyce Leslie clothing store on Tarrytown Road.
