In the three years she has worked at Robison Oil, Shannon Berardo has learned a key skill for success. That is to stay abreast of unexpected changes in the industry, whether that means keeping up with the latest technology or accommodating gas and electricity needs when temperatures outside fluctuate.
During an especially mild winter like this one, for example, the Hawthorne resident says less customers' boilers have stopped working due to over-use than in recent years.
"When it gets really cold out, people usually kick up their boilers and that's happened less this year," she added.
But with each season comes a different set of challenges. Berardo remembers her first year at Robison she assuaged customer concerns after the price of oil soared to a record high.
Oil was almost $5 a gallon and we were so busy, she remembered.
As a coordinator in its energy department, Berardo manages Robisons gas and electric accounts. She logs each customers daily and monthly meter reading from Con Edison and bills them for service.
Berardos duties at Robison are quite a change of pace from her previous position at a commercial real estate company. She says working at Robison has helped her tackle new challenges because the company prides itself on keeping up with new innovations in technology.
She added, We do everything based on the internet so we are learning different things all the time."
