GREENBURGH, N.Y. — The Greenburgh Nature Center will hold its first Family and Pet Photo Day Saturday.
Professional photographers from Venture Portraits will be there to take pictures of the visitors with their pets. The ones without a pet can borrow an animal from the center. The idea is to use animals to make people more conscious about the environment, in particular children, said Penny Berman, Greenburgh Nature Center’s managing director.
“Children are drawn to the animals,” Berman said. “It’s kind of an introduction to environment education.”
She said the center has a collection of animals, including farm animals and raptors, hawks and eagles that have been hurt and no longer can live in the wild.
Each family will receive a $500 gift certificate, entitling them to a free, one-hour photographic session at the Venture Portraits studio in Greenwich, Conn., as well as an original 5-by-7 framed portrait.
Registration and payment has to be done before the event at the center’s website. Members pay $40 and non-members pay $50.
