GREENBURGH, N.Y. --  Writer and filmmaker Chris Mason Johnson’s new film about a modern dance company, with choreography by Greenburgh's Sidra Bell, is now playing in theaters and On Demand.

“Test,” Johnson’s second film focuses on Frankie, (dancer Scott Marlowe in his acting debut) as he confronts the challenges of being an understudy in a modern dance company where he’s taunted to “dance like a man!” Frankie begins a relationship with Todd (Matthew Risch, HBO’s “Looking”), a veteran dancer and bad boy to Frankie’s innocence. Together, they traverse a world of hope, visual beauty and humor against the backdrop of the early years of the AIDS epidemic.

“Test” was nominated for the New American Cinema Award in 2013.

Out Magazine says “Test” is “excellent, gripping, surprisingly funny and beautifully shot.”

Bell, who has just completed touring her dance company in Pittsburgh, New York, Atlanta, Washington D.C., San Francisco and Vancouver, Canada, is a world-renowned choreographer, graduate of Yale University (B.A.) and Purchase Conservatory.

Johnson has worked as a dancer with companies throughout the U.S. and Europe. He was a dancer with the Frankfurt Ballet and White Oak Dance Project with Mikhail Baryshnikov. His move to film brought him to Open City Films and a position as script editor at Miramax, Dimension, Disney, ABC Family and Fine Line.

His first feature film, “The New Twenty,” was released in 2009.
