Irvington's Ruth Spette Dies at 99

IRVINGTON, N.Y. - Ruth Spette, of Irvington, died Nov. 2 at the New York State Veteran's Nursing Home in Montrose. She was 99.

She was born in Ridgefield, Conn. to Roy and Lulu Chamberlain. She married Carol Spette in West Haven, Conn and continued as the resident manager of New York University's Frank Jay Gould Conference Center in Ardsley-on-Hudson after her husband's death in 1963.

Mrs. Spette later went on to provide child care services to families is Ardsley Park and Irvington. A member of Irvington Presbyterian Church and the Hudson Valley Music Club, she was known to sport an upbeat and positive attitude.

She is survived by her son Gerald, her brother David Chamberlain and many nieces and nephews. Spette was predeceased by her husband Carol, her brother Roy and her sisters Carol, Jean and Adele.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Irvington Presbyterian Church.
