PetCo Donates 500 Goodie Bags to Animal Shelter

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Pets Alive Westchester, Greenburgh's no-kill animal shelter, recently received a donation equaling roughly $1,250 from Central Avenue's PetCo.

Since Thanksgiving, PetCo customers have donated canned food and small toys for cats and dogs. PetCo then made 500 goodie bags comprised of two food tins and a toy, and donated them to Pets Alive Westchester (PAW) on Monday.

"We absolutely adore them," said PAW's Marcy Rydd. "It's amazing. The donations are so greatly needed, and truly help us with our food costs. We couldn't possibly find the words to express how grateful we are. Thank you just isn't nearly enough."

Over the years, the two companies have formed a mutual bond with each other to keep animals safe and healthy. PetCo participates in donation drives to help PAW's food supply, and PAW recommends PetCo to people who adopt or foster an animal from the shelter.

"Pets Alive is very nice," said George Ramos, PetCo's general manager. "They are so grateful."

The store's holiday traffic increased the amount of donations they received. The customers were very giving and were not hesitant to donate, said Ramos.

"It feels really good to donate," said Megan Lapolice, PetCo's assistant manager.

"What is even more exciting is that every item donated was a gift of love for the animals from our community," said Rydd. "When we see that shopping cart of donations come in, we see it more filled with supportive hugs and high fives than anything."
