RIVERTOWNS, N.Y. -- Rivertowns resident Karynne Summars has won MARSocial's Author of the Year Award.

The former corporate-finance professional turned author, who self-published her first novel last year, was named the winner of the competition with her romance thriller "Desperate Pursuit in Venice." MARSocial’s Author of the Year competition gives authors as much exposure via the large social media networking sites.

About 170 international authors from the U.S, Canada, Australia, England, Ireland, Israel, Scotland, France, Romania and other countries submitted excerpts from their books and then promoted the competition on social media, which included tweeting competitors' excerpts. There have been more than 250,000 tweets about the competition. Summars’ book excerpt from chapter six of her romantic thriller "Desperate Pursuit in Venice" had more than 6,500 tweets in addition to other social media shares.

"To set her book apart from recently published adult romance novels, Summars created a strong, ambitious and seductive but also compassionate female protagonist," representatives said. "Sensual scenes are presented tastefully and in the context of a true love story. The novel touches on important current issues designed to bring awareness to those finding themselves in similar situations in real life. The sequel, with more emotional twists and turns as well as thrilling situations for the charismatic characters, is in preparation."
