3 Cars And 3 Versions For Accident In Greenburgh

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — An accident involving three cars took place near the corner of Knollwood and Old Tarrytown roads.

Lisa Rizzuti said that she was stopped on Knollwood Road behind Udia Stewart when Schantel Gay’s red GMC Jimmy hit her silver Ford Freestyle, and it in turn hit Stewart’s green Toyota Corolla.

Rizzuti, a Larchmont resident, had just picked up her son at the Westchester Community College.

Gay, who lives in Mount Vernon and was accompanied by her boyfriend Michael Brown, and Stewart, who lives in Port Chester, are both students at that school, and were also coming from there.

The three parties had different versions for the accident, which happened Monday around 11 a.m.

“She was stopped at the red light and the red car came and pushed me on the lady,” said Rizzuti, referring to the traffic light at the junction with Old Tarrytown Road.

Brown said that the light was green when Stewart stopped.

“She made a sudden stop on a green, I don’t know why,” he said. “By the time we pulled breaks, we collided on the silver car.”

“No, it wasn’t a sudden stop,” said Stewart, who confirmed that the light was green, but said that there were two cars in front of her.

“The one in front was making a left turn,” she said.

The police report was not available as of Wednesday afternoon, but Lt. Brian Ryan, of the Greenburgh Police Department, said that in cases like this the police only check if all drivers' licenses and vehicle registrations are valid, and if there are no aggravating violations such as driving intoxicated, leaving the investigation for the insurance companies.

“It’s a civil matter,” he said.
