GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- An infant boy found dead at an Elmsford recycling plant in November was the top story of 2013 in Greenburgh.
Discarded in a garbage dumpster in Spring Valley then transported to the recycling plant, the baby, named "Baby Angel" by police, was found by workers going through the trash on Nov. 12.
Westchester County, Elmsford and Spring Valley police began an investigation that led to the arrest of a recently pregnant Equadorian woman who lived in Spring Valley. Maria Guaman-Gumana , 23, was arrested and charged with second degree murder after matching DNA samples led to her.
Among other the other top stories of 2013 was the death of a two-year old boy who perished in an Elmsford house fire on October 19. The young boy was visiting with his family from Barbados when a fire broke out in a private home. Several people were evacuated by Elmsford Fire Department personnel. The boy's body was found the next day in an attic room.
In November, Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner won an 11th term in office in an uncontested election after being challenged by fellow Democrat Bob Bernstein in a September primary.
The Town of Greenburgh ended a decade-long legal dispute by agreeing to pay $6.5 million after a ruling that it violated the constitutional rights of a Mount Vernon church, Fortress Bible Church. The town denied the church building permits because it believed the property was not suited for a church.
Joseph Ricca, formerly a New Jersey schools superintendent, took over as Elmsford schools superintendent in August.
On October 19, a 43-year-old man walked on to the Metro-North's Harlem Line near the Hartsdale train station and was killed by a train leaving the station. The Harlem line service was down for several hours while police investigated the death.
Veteran Greenburgh K-9 Police dog Patriot died after a nine-year career in which he worked with Detective Wayne Papovitch and was responsible for numerous search-and-arrests and illegal drug detections.
