First, he signed a new manager for the aging Playland Amusement Park in Rye.

Now, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino wants to save the cobweb-covered Cantina Restaurant at V.E. Macy Park. It's the landmark along the Saw Mill River Parkway in the Town of Greenburgh that sticks out like a pile of rocks.

On Wednesday, Astorino said he is looking for entrepreneurs with ideas to revitalize the stone and wooden structure and surrounding property at Woodlands Lake -- about one mile north of the Ashford Avenue exit in Ardsley.

County government aims to bring new life to the local landmark by offering a license agreement to a qualified company for a restaurant or other revenue-generating operation -- such as a catering hall, recreational facility or museum.

Responses to this Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation are due by 2 p.m. on July 24.

“The old Cantina Restaurant was the scene of great food, fun and memories,” Astorino, who lives in Hawthorne, said in a statement. “With access by car or adjacent hiking and biking trails, the ingredients are there to make this an attractive, must-visit destination.”

The available site includes a 4,500-square-foot building with a 2,300-square-foot slate patio, an additional 250-square-foot stone building, and a parking lot. The property is adjacent to the South County Trailway. Revenues to the county from the successful proposal would benefit county parks, officials said.

The Parks Department hosted a pre-proposal conference for interested companies on Wednesday at Woodlands Lake in Irvington.

County officials said they reserve the right to accept, reject or negotiate modifications to any proposal. The Woodlands Lake RFP is the first of several planned requests seeking to expand concessions and attractions at various county parks.
