Celebrate National Ice Cream Month in Greenburgh

GREENBURGH, N.Y. - In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July National Ice Cream Month, a good move because frozen treats were enjoyed by over 90 percent of the population.

David Goldes, owner of Rita's in Elmsford, serves his customers smooth, frosty custard and sweet, juicy Italian ice. His busiest months are May, June and July.

"Once people come in here, they never not come back," Goldes said. "They're addicted."

Their signature flavor is mango, and other favorites include juicy pear, cherry, lemon, coconut and the new Swedish Fish.

While two-thirds of the business comes from Italian ice, Goldes is pleased that he offers his customers custard, and even a blend of the two.

"I think it's some of the best custard in the industry," said Goldes.
