Cops: Landscaper Dipped Into Greenburgh Coin Jar

Police say landscaper Michael Sims tried to make off with $350 in coins while working at a Greenburgh home.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – A White Plains landscaper tried to leave a Greenburgh home with more than just a well-maintained lawn, police said.

Greenburgh police said Michael Sims, 44, was part of a landscaping crew working outside a Greenburgh home Wednesday. He is accused of attempting to steal a jug of coins containing more than $350.

Responding to a report of the missing jug, police said they determined some of the money had been taken but that the rest was hidden. The jug had been put in a garbage can in front of the home, they said.

Sims was arrested when he returned at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, police said. They believe he came back to retrieve the money from the garbage can. He was charged with second-degree burglary.
