County's First Weight Watchers Opens in Greenburgh

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – Greenburgh will soon be home to the first Weight Watchers location in Westchester County.

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, their doors will open at 433 Tarrytown Road in the Crossroads Shopping Center (between Barnes & Noble and Radio Shack), inviting residents to ring in the new year with a healthy focus.

"This is a big thing for us," said Patricia Dishinger, PR Ambassador for Weight Watchers, who stood alongside Colleen Tannenbaum, Westchester's Territory Leader. "It's designed to support a healthier lifestyle. This is thrilling."

Open throughout the day, including weekends, residents are encouraged to stop in to learn about the weight loss program, sit in on a meeting, purchase a membership or the boxed snack foods (bars, shakes, crisps, gummies, oatmeal). The location boasts a modern and contemporary design with a color palette of blue, green and yellow. Weigh ins are discrete and visible only to the member and receptionist. In addition, all meeting leaders and receptionists have used Weight Watchers and, therefore, have experience with the program.

"It's a supportive environment," said Dishinger. "Members are coming in and they are accountable, but it's also a motivated environment."

The Weight Watchers system places emphasis on the nutritional value of food, like protein, fat and carbohydrates, instead of solely concentrating on calorie-counting, like some other programs.

"With the Points Plus program, we're nudging members towards a healthier choice," said Dishinger, who added that a total of 400 new stores will open between 2011 and 2012. "We're nudging them towards a healthier lifestyle."

The location will officially open for business on Wednesday, Dec. 14. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m.. and on Jan. 14, every new Weight Watchers location in America will host their Open House, where food and prizes will be offered to attendees.
