Death Of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg's Husband Points To Treadmill Risks

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The weekend death of Dave Goldberg, entrepreneur and husband of Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, is causing experts to question the risks associated with using treadmills and technology while exercising, according to a report by Washington Post.

Goldberg was found bleeding after he slipped and fell while using one of the treadmill machines at a Four Seasons Hotel near Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, the report said. He hit his head and died from brain trauma and blood loss, the report said.

Data suggests that as high-powered treadmills become more popular, digital distractions also make machines more dangerous, the report said.

According to data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS), roughly 19,000 people went to emergency rooms in 2009 due to treadmill injuries, including nearly 6,000 children, the report stated.
