DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Recently-elected Town of Greenburgh officials take their oath of office at a special ceremony held at the Springhurst Elementary School in Dobbs Ferry Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, Councilwoman Diana Juettner, Councilman Francis Sheehan, Town Clerk Judith Beville and Receiver of Taxes Anne Povella will visit the local school for a 9 a.m. ceremony.

"When I first was elected to the Westchester County Board of Legislators 30 years ago, I began a tradition of being sworn into office at an elementary school," said Feiner, who will begin his 11th two-year term as supervisor. "Over the years I have talked to former students who told me that they remember holding the Bible and participating in the ceremony. The goal is to make government relevant to young people and to encourage their future participation by including them in the process."

Springhurst students in kindergarten through fifth grade will have the chance to ask questions about town government and to express their views about local issues as part of the visit from the town offcials.

"It's our hope that the students who attend will remember this experience and hopefully get involved when they get older," Feiner said.

The Greenburgh Town  Board will hold another ceremonial swearing in ceremony at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday as the first action of the new year. Jonathan Perry, who greets residents at the front desk lobby will be presented as the official Town Greeter for the town.

Springhurst Elementary School is located at Walgrove Avenue. For information about the school, call 914-693-1503.
