EDGEMONT, N.Y. – Music-loving mystery donors have given a hefty boost to the Edgemont School District.
The Edgemont Board of Education accepted a $6,500 donation from an anonymous source Tuesday, money to be used in the junior and senior high school Instrumental Music Program.
Program director John Catoliato said it was a shock when he heard the news.
“I just want to say thank you to whoever this anonymous donor is,” he said at Tuesday’s meeting. “I can’t even begin to express my profound gratitude for this gift.”
In the letter that accompanied the donation, the donors said they wanted to make the gift because of an “absolute appreciation of John Catoliato’s devotion and dedication to our kids and their pursuit of music,” said Superintendent Nancy Taddiken.
Catoliato said he wasn’t the only one who deserved the credit, however.
“The Instrumental Music Program itself is part of the Edgemont community,” he said. “While it was nice that I was named in the donor’s note, it’s fair to say I’m taking the credit where all the credit is not necessarily due.”
Catoliato said he was so caught off guard by the donation he hasn’t decided how the money will be spent.
“There is a long list of stuff we can use it for,” he said.
