Elmsford Firefighter Killed in Motorcycle Accident

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. - An Elmsford volunteer fire lieutenant, the son of Hartsdale Fire Chief and Village Trustee Edward Rush, was killed Thursday evening in a motorcycle accident on Saw Mill River Road in Hawthorne, police said.

Tyler Rush, 24, died shortly after the 7:30 p.m. accident when his 2006 Honda motorcycle collided with a Volkswagen driven by a Briarcliff Manor woman.

Rush, of White Plains, was pronounced dead at the Westchester Medical Center shortly after the accident, Mount Pleasant Police Chief Louis Alagno said. Hall was not injured.

“Tyler was an outstanding person and a wonderful employee,” Elmsford Mayor Robert Williams wrote on the village website.  “His dedication to his village job and his volunteerism with the Fire Department always went above and beyond. He will be deeply missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyler and his family.”

The accident is still under investigation by the Mount Pleasant police and the Westchester County police accident reconstruction unit. Both vehicles were impounded and were being inspected as of Friday afternoon. No charges have been filed.

A wake is scheduled for Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 Stevens Ave. The funeral is will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 59 E. Main St., Elmsford.
