Elmsford Police Officer and PBA President Dennis Donohue attended and made the donation to OLC Principal Sister Mary Stephen.

“The Elmsford PBA was very happy to assist Mount Carmel in obtaining their first AED," Donohue said. "When seconds count, AEDs can mean the difference between life and death.”

An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in patients and is able to treat them through defibrillation. Most schools have one or more devices. An AED can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 or more.

“This lifesaving addition will not only protect our staff and children but also those who worship with us. We can’t thank the Elmsford PBA enough," Sister Mary Stephen said.

Our Lady of Carmel School is on busy East Main Street downtown and has been educating local children since 1929.
