Elmsford Recycling Will No Longer Pick Up Tires

ELMSFORD, N.Y. – As the new year approaches, residents will have to find new ways to recycle their old car tires as the village will no longer take them on specified garbage pickup days.

On Jan. 1, 2012, Westchester County will stop accepting tires for disposal from towns and villages. Since the municipalities will no longer have anywhere to dispose of the rubber, they are stopping residential pickup. The village of Elmsford's last curbside tire pick up will be on Thursday, Dec. 8.

To dispose of tires after Dec. 9, residents are asked to bring them to the Household Materials Recovery Facility at Valhalla's Grassland Campus. Currently, 90 percent of Westchester's recycling is processed there. The newly-constructed facility will also accept household hazardous waste. There is no fee to use the H-MRF.
