According to AAA, drivers in New York were paying an average of $3.76 per regular gallon, among the most in the country. Nationally, prices are sitting at an average of $3.66 per gallon, up 15 cent from a month ago, but down two cents from one year prior. Robert Sinclair, the spokesperson for AA New York predicted that this spike would have happened earlier. Refineries switched to the more expensive, eco-friendly summer blend of gasoline back in March. “We expected that it would happen earlier, but we knew that prices would jump as we approached the summer season,” he said. “Things are going to get very hair during the driving season.” Locally, motorists are paying between $3.73 and $3.99 in the Rivertowns and Greenburgh. The gulf station at 212 Tarrytown Road was selling the precious fuel for an area low of $3.73 per gallon with several Getty stations in Ardsley and Elmsford set at $3.75. Dobbs Ferry resident Rebecca Green said she would get enough gas in Dobbs Ferry Friday to get her to the New Jersey shore where the gas is less expensive. "Jersey is cheaper by 20 cents a gallon in some places," Miller said. "But gas always goes up for the summer. It's a big game they play with consumers. I have a hybrid, so it's not so bad for me."
