Greenburgh Library Celebrates Local Authors, Food

If your two favorite hobbies are reading and dining, head to the Greenburgh Public Library tonight, Monday, May 24, for their second annual fundraiser, “Books & Cooks, A Literary Feast.”

The event offers food samplings from participating restaurants in the area, as well as an opportunity for patrons to meet local authors, discuss writing and get their books signed.

“The library has the potential to be a real community center,” said Cory Deitchman, secretary of the Greenburgh Public Library Foundation. “It will be unifying for Greenburgh.”

The library will close early, at 2 p.m., to set up for the event, which takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The following authors will be on hand: Ira Berkowitz, Caitlin Kelly, Kate Buford, Ben Cheever, Jenny Rosenstrach and Eric Velasquez.

Participating restaurants include Coffee Labs Roasters, the SoNo Bakery Company & Café, Caffe Azzurri, Bistro Z, Morton’s Steakhouse, The Cookery Restaurant, Mughal Palace, Arrosto, and Prospero Winery.

“Last year’s fundraiser was a lot of fun and quite successful,” said Deitchman. “It certainly made the library more visible. And we raised money. It’s really all about making the foundation known.”

Tickets to the event are $125 each. In addition, a silent auction will be help. All funds will go to the Greenburgh Public Library Foundation, which raises funds for the library and buys equipment and essentials that the annual budget cannot afford.
