Greenburgh Looking To Improve Crane's Pond

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Greenburgh Commissioner of Parks Gerry Byrne and his team met with an aquatic specialist from The Pond and Lake Connections at Crane’s Pond in Edgemont concerning the algae and duckweed problem.

Presently the pond has a lot of algae growth with no sign of duckweed. As per state standards the specialist could only treat half of the pond and will return in two weeks to treat the other half. Treatment will continue as needed and as per state regulations through August.

Due to a dry month the pond fountain went down, contributing to the aggressive algae growth. The addition of another pond fountain is under way to increase the water flow with a target date of having the new fountain installed later this summer.

If the treatment doesn’t work the town will proceed with plans to dredge the pond though that could be very expensive.
