Greenburgh Man Arrested for 34th Time

GREENBURGH, N. Y. – A Greenburgh man with 33 prior arrests has found himself back behind bars.

Darryl Leak Jr., 28, was arrested Saturday, May 5, and charged with three counts of second-degree assault, a felony, as well as third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while impaired, both misdemeanors. Greenburgh Police said he attempted to flee after ramming his car into an officer's vehicle.

Leak was also charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and numerous traffic violations.

Police say Leak failed to stop at a stop sign on Florence Avenue just after 9 p.m. When cops tried to pull Leak over, he attempted to flee the officers, running another stop sign before crashing his 1990 Acura into a 2008 Nissan on Rosemont Boulevard, according to reports.

Leak then struck a parked vehicle before finally coming to a stop, police said. When police tried to arrest Leak, they say he put his car in reverse and backed into a marked police car, injuring several officers. Cops say they had to Taser Leak before they were finally able to place him under arrest.

Officers said they later found crack cocaine in Leak's car and determined he was under the influence of the drug at the time of his arrest.

Leak, whose rap sheet includes 11 previous felony arrests and 19 misdemeanors, was arraigned in Greenburgh Town Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail.
