GREENBURGH, N.Y. - Greenburgh Police arrested an 18-year-old White Plains woman and charged her with third degree larceny following an investigation of employee theft at Best Buy in Hartsdale.
Police responded to the store at 7:37 p.m. on Jan. 25 after receiving a report of fraud. The employee had allegedly processed four fraudulent transactions totaling $17,732 in merchandise, police said. She was reportedly paid $12,000 by another party for her efforts.
In a separate employee fraud case, police responded to a report of grand larceny from a retail store on Central Avenue in Scarsdale on Jan. 24. The regional loss prevention officer told police a 39-year-old female employee from Mount Vernon was stealing money from the cash register. The employee would allegedly hit "refund" on the register when a customer made a cash purchase and then pocket the cash as the customer left with purchased merchandise.
The store has video surveillance of 75 incidents totaling $1,766 and wished to press charges. When approached by the store manager, the employee reportedly put her coat on, said she was taking a break and never returned to the store.

Close Calls: An auto shop worker in White Plains reported two incidents of attempted stolen property. The complainant stated on Jan. 15 and Jan. 24 two men attempted to steal a battery booster and car amplifier but both times left in a black Chevrolet without the items.
Strange Call: An 81-year-old Andrea Lane, Scarsdale resident told police that at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24 he received a call at his residence from an unknown male requesting permission to place a security transmitter in his backyard. The man was unsure if the caller was a telemarketer and no caller identification was available. The home was checked by police and everything appeared to be normal.
