Greenburgh Replacing Town Street Lighting System

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – The Greenburgh Town Board will vote to replace the town’s current street lighting with LED energy efficient lights. The board expects that the change will save nearly $350,000 in energy costs.

Previous capital budgets had already included the funds for lighting, and the costs have gone down since the earlier projections.

Lumen Light Solutions, LLC will replace the lighting system for a cost not to exceed $1,384,448.88. Previous capital budgets had already included the funds for lighting, and the costs have gone down since the earlier projections. Lumen Light Solutions has previously worked with the New Rochelle Department of Public Works.

Other advantages of LED over incandescent and fluorescent lighting are reduced glare; lower light pollution; less disruption to migratory birds; possible health benefits if the LED lights are less disruptive to circadian rhythms than are other forms, which some studies propose to be the case; increased safety, as non-LED lights produce more glare.
