GREENBURGH, N.Y. Five Sleepy Hollow and Greenburgh businesses were accused this week of selling alcohol to minors during a one-day undercover operation by the Greenburgh Police Department.
Police said that the vast majority of businesses checked refused to sell alcohol to the undercover, underage buyers on May 16, but five stores let the minors buy booze.
In Greenburgh, summonses were issued to Westchester Wine Warehouse, 53 Tarrytown Road; Greenburgh Food Mart and Shell Gas Station, 425 Dobbs Ferry Road; and Puente Piedra Grocery and Deli, 205 Saw Mill River Road.
In Sleepy Hollow, summonses were issued to Tarrytown Grocery, 180 Cortland St.; and Trinitary Grocery, 97 Cortland St.
The employees who sold the alcohol were also cited. Penalties for business owners carry fines up to $5,000 or revocation of the liquor license, according to the state Liquor Authority. Bartenders and store clerks may be sentenced to up to one year in jail and face up to a $1,000 fine.
The operation was carried out by members of the Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force.
