After receiving some criticism about the town's website, Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner is looking to make customer-friendly modifications that will ensure the public's ease on the site.
The current website's information is scattered and hidden, some complaints said. The news section, which is the most important, is not being displayed prominently, said Josh Ringel, one of Feiner's interns.
"The site is a little cumbersome," Feiner said. "We have a lot of information that we put on, but some people can't find it. Sometimes it's really hard to figure it out. We provide an awful lot of town updates."
The website should provide maximum information, said Feiner. His goal is to modernize and become more accessible, using an index to facilitate usage.
"I think that since the residents have to pay such high taxes in Greenburgh and Westchester," Ringel said, "it's really important that they're able to find out quickly and easily what is going on in the town and how the money is being spent. They need to be able to tell what's going on right now."
Town Clerk Judith Beville is heading the task force, aiming to restructure. Feiner and Beville might make incremental changes to the website instead of one large overhaul. The method is yet to be chosen, as they are still looking for volunteer web designers.
"The more eyes we have and the more ideas we have, the better," said Feiner. "I think that we want to make government as open, transparent and accessible as possible. And sometimes we think we're doing everything correct, but we're not close enough."
