Greenburgh's Digital Sign Moves To Edgemont, Reins In Reckless Drivers

EDGEMONT, N.Y. -- Dangerous drivers beware: Greenburgh has moved its digital traffic ticket board -- as well as targeted police enforcement -- to Fort Hill Road in the Edgemont section of town.

A digital sign posted along Fort Hill Road in Edgemont as it looked on Tuesday. Greenburgh police plan to move the sign, which gives a running count of each day's traffic tickets, from neighborhood to neighborhood, to slow speeders.

On Tuesday, the illuminated sign indicated 57 traffic tickets had been written at that location that day by the Greenburgh Police Department.

Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner said most of Tuesday's tickets were for making an illegal left turn from Jackson Avenue to Fort Hill Road.

"This digital speed board will discourage speeding by alerting motorists that the police are out there --and will be issuing tickets to those who drive recklessly,'' Feiner said.

The traffic ticket board, the first of its kind in Westchester County was posted along East Hartsdale Avenue last week and will be moving around town to areas where residents have complained about speeding and other moving violations, according to Feiner, who is also a Daily Voice community adviser.

The sign will be left along one street for several days before Greenburgh police relocate it to another part of town.

"If drivers know that there is a strong possibility of getting a ticket on a street I think they will also be more careful,'' Feiner said.

Residents who'd like the digital ticket sign on their street are asked to call the police department at 914-989-1700.
