RYE, N.Y. -- The competition may not have been aware of Kymani Senior last year, but they are now. The 12-year-old Senior, who swims for the Greenburgh Swim Team, was a double-winner and the high-point champion in the boys 12-and-under division, Thursday at the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships at Westchester Country Club.
Senior won the 12-and-under 50 butterfly and breaststroke and finished fourth in the freestyle. He finished with 55 points. Teammate Jazmine Smith scored a perfect 60 points to win the girls 10-and-under high-point award.
Winning the high-point award is awesome, said Senior, an eighth-grader-to-be at Woodlands Middle School. This is my second year here and last year I finished in seventh place in the high-point award.
Senior won the breaststroke with a time of 32.26 seconds and followed it with a clocking of 27.34 seconds to win the butterfly. His time of 25.42 seconds put him fourth. The winning time was 25.0 seconds.
The last two times in the butterfly I have come in second to the same guy, Alex Corda, but today I was able to beat him, Senior said. In the butterfly, I took less breathes and went for it. I was able to catch him at the flags and beat him to the wall.
Senior already knew where he was placing his high-point trophy at his house.
Its going right in the living room where everyone can see it, Senior said.
