GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- New sidewalks have been installed along a 550-foot stretch of West Hartsdale Road (Route 100A) in Greenburgh.

The sidewalks, funded by the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester, extend from the existing walkway at the school's main entrance at 555 W. Hartsdale Road to its second driveway.

The project, which began earlier this month, was completed in about two weeks.

Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner said the work is part of a wider, long-term effort to improve public safety throughout the town.

Feiner said the town will be seeking Safe Routes to School and other grant opportunities to extend the sidewalk to Pat Capone Road and farther south to Secor Road.

The goal, Feiner said, is to have a walkway that extends from Central Avenue to West Hartsdale Avenue to Knollwood Road to Route 119.

Feiner said the town recently applied for over $900,000 of grant funds from New York state to connect the sidewalk gap between the driveway at the Greenburgh Shopping Center north to the existing sidewalk near the Greenburgh Health Center.

The town has also applied for a grant to build a sidewalk on Central Avenue from Marion Road to West/East Hartsdale Avenue.
