A Westchester County man is facing a felony drug charge after a routine traffic stop on I-87 led to his arrest over the weekend.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on June 16, New York State Police troopers stopped a vehicle on I-87 in Newburgh for an equipment stop.

According to police, during the subsequent stop, it was determined that 28-year-old Hartsdale resident Emil Zippo, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was in possession of approximately 3 grams of cocaine and nearly 9 grams of marijuana.

The driver - whose name was not released - of the vehicle was cited for several vehicle and traffic violations and released at the scene. Zippo was transported to state police barracks in Newburgh, where he was charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Zippo was arraigned in Newburgh Town Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He is due back in court next week.
