HARTSDALE, N.Y. — Eleven-year-old Olivia Berkson of Hartsdale has her New Year's resolution set, and she can't wait to show it off to her classmates once it's achieved.

"I want to do a pull-up in gym class," Berkson said.
Whether you're ready or not, 2013 is finally here, which can mean a time to change bad habits or improve lifestyles. The trick is keeping the resolution: According to a 2008 FranklinCovey survey, one-third of people who make New Year's resolutions will break them by the end of January.
The most popular New Year's resolutions don't change much every year, the poll also found. The top resolutions usually involve losing weight, saving money, breaking an unhealthy habit or spending more time with friends and family.
Some people, like Berkson, are vowing to hit the gym more, while others, like Jonathan Hernandez, have set a higher bar.
"I'd like to make more money," said Hernandez, who lives in Yonkers and works in Greenburgh.
Eros Corpus, manager of the Greenburgh store Batteries Plus Bulbs, said his resolution also had to do with his job. Instead of making more money, he wants to learn better time management.
"My resolution is to balance family and business at the same time. It's hard," Corpus said.
Joy Travalino of Edgemont said she's trying to change many things about her life in 2013, but a major resolution she hopes to keep is to find more time to spend with her friends, who often invite her out to concerts.
"I feel really bad that I keep missing them," Travalino said.
One Hartsdale resident said he doesn't make New Year's resolutions anymore after he kept breaking them.
"I haven't even thought about it," Michael Desiato said. "I gave up on that a long time ago."
